Personal Information & User Privacy

User privacy and data protection is our top priority. We collect minimal personal data from you when you voluntarily provide such information such as when you create an account for access to the ReadToMe applications or contact us with inquiries.

 

You can log into your account and edit your personal data at any time. You have the right to change your information at any time. The audio files generated from your student’s use of ReadToMe are available only to you, your authorized representatives and to the ReadToMe team. You can be guaranteed that audio materials will not be shared with anyone. Under no circumstance does ReadToMe sell your information to or share your information with anyone at any time.

 

ReadToMe reserves the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time and from time to time without prior notice. Please review this policy periodically, and especially before you provide any Personal Data. Your continued use of the app and service we provide after any changes or revisions to this Privacy Policy shall indicate your agreement with the terms of such revised Privacy Policy. All changes to this Privacy Policy will be posted on this page. In case of significant changes, we will provide a more prominent notice. It was last modified on August 4, 2020.

Secure Storage

We do our utmost to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to make sure that your data is stored securely. All stored data is encrypted using advanced standards.

No advertising

The ReadToMe app contains no advertising of any kind. ReadToMe does not work with or benefit from ad-driven services in any way.

Permission

To work properly, ReadToMe requires the following permissions:

  1. Microphone - record audio

  2. Other - view network connections, full network access and change your audio settings.

Information we collect

To respect your privacy, ReadToMe collects only minimal data:

  • Your basic Google account information, including email address.

  • Device information, including device ID, operating system, brand, model and country code.

  • App information and activity, including app version and crash logs.

  • Student's basic profile that you may create with basic information including name, grade level and home language preference.

  • Student's activity and statistics for the assignments they engage with.

  • Voice capture is incorporated when your child reads an assignment out loud. Voice information is immediately converted to text and used to identify key elements of reading proficiency, such as, phonemic awareness and reading pace

  • If you are a teacher and only upon your request RTM will require access to your Google Classroom through your Google account to import your courses and course roster information into RTM so the two services can work in parallel. On your discretion, RTM will also view/modify assignments and questions and the work and grades for the courses you manage.

How we use the information

ReadToMe uses the information collected for internal operational purposes such as spam and abuse prevention, enforcing content license restrictions, determining preferred language patterns and providing and improving the service.

 

ReadToMe also uses this information to offer users personalized content. We associate a unique identifier that's unique to the service with the books your children have read and terms they've searched for to recommend books likely to be of interest to them, subject to the controls described below.

 

Additionally, ReadToMe collects information to provide a personalized reading experience for your students:

 

  • we authenticate which Google account is using the app

  • we store preferences and provide recommendations

  • we help your student to search for and read books they enjoy

  • we give you control over your student's profiles and activity

  • we protect our service from spam or other malicious actors

 

ReadToMe does not allow your student to share personal information with third parties or make it publicly available.

 

ReadToMe does not share personal information it collects with any third parties. ReadToMe may deem it necessary to follow websites and/or pages that our users may frequent in an effort to glean what types of services and/or products may be the most popular to customers or the general public. ReadToMe may disclose your personal information, without prior notice to you, only if required to do so in accordance with applicable laws and/or in a good faith belief that such action is deemed necessary or is required in an effort to: Remain in conformance with any decrees, laws and/or statutes or in an effort to comply with any process which may be served upon ReadToMe and/or our website; Maintain, safeguard and/or preserve all the rights and/or property of ReadToMe; or Perform under demanding conditions in an effort to safeguard the personal safety of users of www.readaloudproductions.com and/or the general public.

Your controls

ReadToMe gives you transparency and control over the data we collect. You may perform any of the following actions:

  • view your children's reading activity, unless previously deleted

  • delete any child profile and activity

  • delete your account and all associated data, including your children's profiles

  • change or delete teacher controls and customizations

 

By clicking the "I Consent" button in the app, you acknowledge that you have received notice from Google regarding the information collection, use, and disclosure practices connected with your children's use of ReadToMe when you sign into it. Moreover, you consent to Google associating the data described above with information from your Google Account for the purposes set forth above, and in all cases subject to the Google Privacy Policy. Finally you consent to using your Google account to verify your identity in order to provide notice and obtain any consent necessary for features and functionalities we introduce in the future. You may revoke your consent at any time by deleting your ReadToMe account by following the prompts in the settings section of the ReadToMe app.

Unsubscribe or Opt Out

All users and/or visitors to our website have the option to discontinue receiving communication from us and/or reserve the right to discontinue receiving communications by way of email or newsletters. To discontinue or unsubscribe to our website please send an email that you wish to unsubscribe to info@readtome.com. If you wish to unsubscribe or opt out from any third-party websites, you must go to that specific website to unsubscribe and/or opt out.

Links to Other Websites

Our website does contain links to affiliates and other websites. ReadToMe does not claim nor accept responsibility for any privacy policies, practices and/or procedures of other such websites. Therefore, we encourage all users and visitors to be aware when they leave our website and to read the privacy statements of each and every website that collects personally identifiable information. The aforementioned Privacy Policy Agreement applies only and solely to the information collected by our website.

Acceptance of Terms

Through the use of this website, you are hereby accepting the terms and conditions stipulated within the aforementioned Privacy Policy Agreement. If you are not in agreement with our terms and conditions, then you should refrain from further use of our sites. In addition, your continued use of our website following the posting of any updates or changes to our terms and conditions shall mean that you are in agreement and acceptance of such changes.
 

Notes for review:

Our app uses https://www.googleapis.com/auth/classroom.courses.readonly 

So a teacher can import their Google Classrooms into our app. Our app uses this data to create classes on our database. The teacher needs to manually import the classrooms through an "Import Classes" button.
